“Jolie’s Parable”

A true christian is like a puppy to his owner. The puppy follows his owner around for guidance and shelter. He looks up to his owner for food, plus other things like love and companionship. His owner, in return, supplies him with his needs as well as teaches him obedience and tricks. The puppy grows up to be a mature and well-trained dog. He continues to follow his owner forever. Like this puppy a true christian should follow God around and go to him for your needs. Then He will teach you the ten commandments and the tricks to get in heaven. Of course, sometimes the puppy might stray off, but he returns home eventually for shelter from the night. If the puppy does get lost, his owner will search for him.

“Modern Apostles”

If I were Jesus, and I had to choose 12 people alive today to serve as my Apostles, I would pick the following people for these reasons:

1. Mr. Albertson because he’s an influencial teacher and knows what he’s doing.

2. Grace Cary because she really enjoys Jesus and even though some people criticized her for being so active, she loves everyone.

3. Fred Knapp because he’s always really kind to me when I meet him in the store even though at first I made fun of him. He even gave me a necklace for Christmas.

4. Mrs. Edna Knapp because she spent her spare time making a Cabbage Patch Kid for my sister and she’s real active as a christian, too.

5. Father Jim because he really loves children and he let my older brother FLY his plane!

6. Mrs. Stopol because she has a lot of patience and when she does get mad, she reads from the Bible.

7. My mom because she always goes to prayer meetings and has influenced at least 30 people to join her when she goes.

8. Mrs. Graven because she is very influencial and energetic, besides being considerate and a good teacher.

9. Miss Monrovia because she understands children and listens with concern to their complaints and problems and handles things with ease.

10. My sister Susie because she is a young, energetic, and intelligent child with a sense of humor as well.

11. Rose Zurek because she, at her age, is still very religious, generous, & kind in spite of her half-poverty.

12. Bishop Weisner because he’s always helping others in celebrations and taking time off to spend with his relatives.

“Filled With the Holy Spirit”

H.S. (Holy Spirit): Holy Spirit

r: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. This is Jolie reporting for the Daily Informer. I am standing before the residence of the 11 apostles, followers of Jesus before his death. A very amazing event took place here in Jerusalem at nine in the morning today. I have here the man responsible for this miracle. Holy Spirit, can you explain exactly what you did for these fine young men?

H.S.: Yes. I decided that these apostles needed more confidence; to feel more sure of themselves. So I came to them as tongues of fire. Then I divided myself equally among them and settled in their souls. Right away I began working them, giving them each their own foreign language to speak with.

r: Holy Spirit, what is the meaning of speaking in foreign languages?

H.S.: I gave them the gift of tongues, so to speak, to show the world that all people speak the same language when speaking of God and Jesus.

r: Mr. Spirit, why did you use fire to resemble yourself?

H.S.: That is quite simple. Fire is a great force from God, as I am. Entering them as I did today was to rebuild or rekindle a fire of faith within them.

“Turning Points”

The turning point in my cousins’ lives is when their sister died in a truck accident. The difference it made is that now they are a lot nicer and prepared.

A turning point in Miss Meyer’s life is when she took this job as principal. The difference it made is that she knows what it’s like in a small, christian school and she knows a lot of kids.

One turning point is when my dad got sick. The difference it made is I did a lot of praying and learned a lot about what God wants and expects.

Another turning point is when my sister Susie was born. The difference is that I was finally old enough to remember when she was born in future years and I was old enough to help take care of her.

A third turning point in my life is around when I turned 13. I started maturing and didn’t act like a baby anymore (or a little kid).

“Prioritizing My Values”

The following things are all things which I value greatly in life: Mom, sisters, brothers, God, puppies, friends, Grandma, Father Jim, dreams, the promise of eternity in Heaven, cousins, privacy, freedom.

My prioritized list of 10 values is (in order):
1. God
2. the promise of eternity in Heaven
3. Mom
4. sisters
5. brothers
6. cousins
7. friends
8. Grandma
9. dreams
10. puppies

Why do I value the things listed so much? I value the things I have listed so much because everyday or night they are in my thoughts.

I value God most because He has done more for me than most people could imagine. My dad’s death has brought us extremely close. The promise of eternity in Heaven was given to my mom for our whole family by Jesus (which makes it important) through the gift of tongues (hard to believe, but true).

My sisters & brothers are important because I’ve lived and grown with them my whole life. My friends are important because they care about me and they’re people my own age I can talk to. My cousins have more value to me than my friends I decided because they are the ones that really care deeply about me and are never afraid to comfort me or give me a hug.

My grandma is important because I feel a part of me belongs to her and she understands more than people would think she would.

My dreams are like wonderful movies I see on T.V., except they’re free and don’t take up any valuable time. Stories have always fascinated me and the best thing about these stories are that I’m in them.

Last of all the puppies are important to me because I have had two dogs which I loved dearly get killed (which brought me closer already) and because puppies are my favorite types of pets. These puppies I have known since they were very little and mothered them right away since they came. Now they follow me like a parent.

“Personal Evaluation”

The best thing that happened to me over the summer is hard to tell since a lot of things good happened to me. Probably the best thing is that I got to spend the best summer ever with my dad before he died. We went to South Dakota and saw the Corn Palace, we saw this modern-made pioneer village that included everything from a barber shop and bank to a graveyard and school (but none of our cameras worked that day), and I came very close to God that summer also.

The things I am most looking forward to as an 8th grader are the school amusement park trip, the graduation, being the 3rd oldest student in the whole school, being there for the little kids who need an older friend (especially my little sister Susie), and, most of all, having the best last year in elementary school.

The most important things that I have to offer to our class so that this year goes well for everyone are probably my friendship, being there when someone feels alone, setting an example, and helping out in sports and sales (like bake sales).

The one thing I have to work on is being more open, expressing my opinion, and being a good leader, not a follower of everyone else.

What the slogan "lift your wings: soar to success" means is that everyone should really try – put some effort into it – and they can be anything they want. How I plan to live up to it is trying real hard in Student Council, working on my work so it gets finished, and being more open and expressing.

My Goals for this Quarter

This year I expect good grades because I am going to try hard, study in my room, and check over my work.

In math I expect As and Bs because it’s not too hard for me and I’m going to work extra hard on the decimals and dollar signs.

In social studies I expect Bs because I’m going to study hard and stop day-dreaming and watching television.

In science, I’m going to improve by helping and volunteering in experiments and things, so I expect Bs and maybe As.

In spelling, I’m going to make sure every word is memorized and studied. I expect to get As in spelling.

In Religion, one christian value I’m going to work on is controlling my temper. Instead of getting angry and start yelling at my brothers and sisters when ever they mess up my room or play in it, I’m going to sit down and ask them why they did it. They probably just do it because they want me to play with them. I expect around As and Bs.

One Easter…

Hi, I’m Easter Jolie. I’m here to tell you about this special Easter we had. Hop along with me to where it started. Hippetty-hop, hippetty-hop.

Well, here we are. This is where my famous ancestor was born. His name is Peter Flappy-ear.

One Easter, there weren’t enough Easter eggs. Nobody wanted to help with the problem, so the head chicken said who ever found a solution would be rewarded in some way.

At that time Peter was as young as I am now. He didn’t have much priviledges. He couldn’t go any farther than over the hill alone.

One day he was walking over the hill to pick berries when he saw a very funny looking squirrel. Peter followed it over to a tree. The squirrel went in the tree. A little while later he came out with an egg. Then a bird went in. It, too, came out with an egg.

When Peter returned home, his new rabbit-sitter asked him what took so long. He didn’t answer so she asked if he saw a weird looking tree. She must’ve knew about the tree because when he said yes, she sent him to bed for being beyond the other side of the hill. Peter suspected that she knew something about the eggs so he didn’t say anything to anyone about them.

The next morning he got up early. Fortunately, he got up just before his rabbit-sitter left; acting strange. She looked like she was in a hurry and acted nervous. She also reminded Peter over and over to stay home.

Of course, after she left he followed. A little ways over the hill he stopped. He told his mother and father she didn’t look good before they left on the trip. He was right. She was digging in the tree. Peter thought she might see him so he ran home. When he got home he wrote a letter to his mother and father telling what happened.

A couple days later, his parents came home. They looked worried. He could tell they recieved the letter and came home as fast as they could.

They took off and caught the egg-snatcher. While Peter’s parents took him to the police, Peter went out by the tree and found not only the eggs that were missing, but a couple chickens were stashed in an old box farther in the woods.

When the head chicken asked what he wanted for a reward, Peter said he wanted to be known every Easter. That’s how the Easter Bunny was invented.

In God We Trust and Share Our Gifts

I just came to St. Bart’s this year. I was surprised when on the first day at recess I made friends right away.

St. Bart’s is a wonderful school. It is full of wonderful people, too. For instance, the teachers, the students, Father Jim, and all the others. St. Bart’s is big. Sometimes we get extra recesses when we are good.

We also have church every Wednesday. Father Jim talks to us as if we are real special. He asks questions and we answer.

We have lots of programs, too. We have Christmas programs. I’m sure we have many more, but I haven’t been here long enough to see them.

We also have choir. A choir for grownups and a Children’s Choir. It’s fun because you learn a lot of songs and get to sing in church.

Our principal’s name is Miss Meyer. She is very nice. Ms. Mead teaches music – she’s also the choir teacher. Mrs. Weisner teaches first grade. Mrs. Schrader teaches second. Mrs. Valla teaches third. Mrs. Johnson teaches fourth. Mrs. Mick teaches fifth. Mrs. Graven teaches sixth. Mrs. Green teaches seventh. Last of all, Mr. Albertson teaches eighth.

Another real good thing about St. Bart’s is discipline. Unlike most public schools, St. Bart’s make sure that there isn’t any make-up worn by the students, and that there is no swearing. Only on Halloween, or if we are having a play or something we can wear make-up.

Not only do the parents bring their kids to St. Bart’s, but they participate themselves. For instance, they help with book reports and helping the kids check out books in the library. That is why I like St. Bart’s.

Santa’s Lost Suit

Bang, bang, boom! We’re all busy making Christmas toys, when Santa comes rushing through saying, “Oh dear, oh dear!” Nobody seemed to notice except me.

I’m his best helper. I help him with everything. Even delivering presents. My name is Helpful.

I followed him to the kitchen. He must not have noticed me, because he didn’t stop to explain like he usually does. I walked up. I asked what’s the matter. He quickly turned around, then said, “Oh! I’m sorry, but I didn’t notice you! Have you seen my suit? I must have misplaced it.”

“No, I haven’t. Hmm. Maybe you should try on a different suit.” So we went to the storage room. We dug up five suits. The first one was a swimming suit. It was to cold out to wear. The others were Halloween suits, which were too frightening.

Santa was sad for the rest of the day. All the elves tried to cheer him up. Nothing would cheer him up, I thought. By morning everybody had given up.

Just then, Mrs. Claus came home. She had a box in her hands. She walked up and gave it to Santa. “I had it cleaned at the cleaners,” she said. We all watched while he slowly opened it up.

When he saw what it was, his face lit up with joy. We had to see what it was! Right there, inside the box, was his suit! Right away he got it on while we put the toys in the sleigh.

Before he left, Mrs. Claus gave him a party, just a little one, for causing him to be worried. From that day on, Mrs. Claus always told Santa before she has it cleaned.

The Deserted House

It was Halloween. I was getting ready to go trick or treating. When I was ready, I grabbed my bag and went outside. It seemed spooky. As I walked along, I noticed the old, deserted house on the top of the hill.

Right then, a light switched on! I was sure someone moved in, so I went up and knocked. No answer.

All of a sudden, the door swung open! Boy, did I jump! There was nobody at the door, or was there? I went in to check. Jeepers, was it webbed up!

Just then, the door closed! I wished it was the wind. I went in the next room. It must be the kitchen, I thought.

The next room looked like a dining room. There was a small, square, table. Around it was four chairs. I was almost positive nobody lived in this place until I saw a sandwich sitting on the table. I looked around.

There, across the hall was a small, strange door. I walked over to it. I hezitated before I opened it.

There I saw a long stairway. I could see three bedrooms at the top of the stairway. I walked up the stairway to the first bedroom. All of a sudden, I heard a wicked cackle! Then a woman’s scream!

“Aaahhhh!”

I ran down the stairs so fast, I got a scar on my left knee by a chair. When I got to the door, it wouldn’t open! I looked around. Then I grabbed a chunk of wood. I tossed it at the window. I jumped out and ran home, as fast as I could!

The next thing I knew, I just woke up. I guessed I fell asleep when I got home. I went and told my mother what happened. She didn’t beleive me, but it’s true. I still have the scar.
